Jemima Puddleduck — bonnet, shawl, and all the dignity she can muster — hand painted in fine English porcelain by Beswick for F. Warne & Co. This is the 1948 version, one of the earlier productions of one of the most beloved figurine series in English pottery history. At 4 inches tall, she's small enough to sit anywhere and important enough to deserve a proper spot.
Beatrix Potter created Jemima in 1908 for "The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck," part of her original Peter Rabbit series. Beswick began producing the Potter figurines under license from Frederick Warne & Co. in 1948 — the same year this piece was made — and continued for decades, with early versions like this one being the most sought after by collectors. The hand painting on these early pieces is notably finer than later productions.
A treasured gift for a Beatrix Potter collector, a new baby's nursery, or anyone who grew up with these stories and never quite got over them.
