The stainless steel lid has four rings and a round handle — designed for lifting the coddler from hot water, not for unscrewing. To use: remove the lid, break an egg into the cup, add butter, salt and pepper, then stand in 2 inches of boiling water for a minimum of 6 minutes. Grasp the lid fully to unscrew — the ring is for lifting only. The egg can be eaten directly from the cup.
