Made during one of history’s most specific windows — and still striking.
“Occupied Japan” marks date only from 1945 to 1952, the brief period of American occupation when all Japanese exports were required to carry that phrase. This demitasse cup and saucer on fine, translucent porcelain carries an unusual abstract pattern: intertwined shapes, two hand-painted red stripes at the base, and a gold rim at the top. Graphic, modern, and historically significant. A find for Occupied Japan collectors and lovers of mid-century design.
