  • Made in France
  • Antique: 1910's
  • Details: An absolutely gorgeous decorative plate (aka plaque / charger), signed by Muville, from Limoges France.  Hand painted design shows a Regency Era couple in a garden. He's holding a grouping of birds. There are flowers and trees in the background and foreground, all in lovely pastel tones with a thick gold swirled border. (We are thinking Regency era because she's not corseted, she wears a long draped gown, but could be Victorian era). The plate is not marked but based on research we learned all these Muville plaques came from Limoges France, they are highly desired and collectible.  It has four pre-drilled holes for hanging. Currently there is wire, we'll leave it on for you, but it's not very attractive, if you're gifting this you may want to replace it. This piece is anywhere from 100 to 114 years old, a true treasure and in excellent condition for its age!  We carry several other plates, if you would like 3 or more Decorative Plates (mix and match from our entire Decorative Plates section), please Contact Us for 20% off, don't forget to let us know which 3 plates you've selected.  This item qualifies for free shipping (Continental US only).

Muville was a French artist who painted on many Limoges porcelain bowls and plates. Not much has been written about him/her.

Limoges porcelain is hard-paste porcelain produced by factories in and around the city of Limoges, France, (a city southwest of Paris), beginning in the late 18th century, and does not refer to a particular manufacturer. There were many studios in the region of Limoges making porcelain. Just like Staffordshire pottery, which is made in Staffordshire, the word Limoges stands for the region where these ceramics were produced not the maker /  factory.  Some of the markings on pieces of Limoges porcelain are standard marks used by many firms and studios. Most of the Limoges factories did not routinely mark their products until after the end of the 19th century.
