This blue and white plate renders Currier & Ives' beloved "Homestead in Winter" lithograph in ceramic: a country home blanketed in snow, a barn across the road, a boy carrying wood with his dog at his heels, a horse-drawn sleigh on the road, and bare winter trees as far as the eye can see. Currier & Ives, the prolific New York printmaking firm founded in 1835, produced lithographs of American life that remain among the most recognized images in the country's visual history. This plate is rimmed in gold and stamped on the back "For Decorative Purpose Only — Not to be Used for Serving Foods, Made in Japan." No pre-drilled holes; a plate hanger or stand is required. There is yellow glue residue on the back from an old sticker.
