Extraordinarily rare, deeply meaningful, and unlike anything else you'll find in the world of collectible decanters. This P.A.P. Loyal Order of Moose decanter dates to the 1940s or early 1950s and commemorates one of the fraternal organization's most beloved traditions: the Nine O'Clock Bedtime Ceremony at Mooseheart — the residential home and school in Illinois where the Moose Fraternity has cared for children in need since 1913.
The decanter is blue porcelain bisque with embossed, pastel-colored designs in raised relief. One side features a large, beautifully detailed Moose head. The other depicts a young boy kneeling in prayer at his bedside, the original Campanile clock tower visible through the window behind him — the earlier version of the scene, before the painting was updated in the early 1960s to show the House of God instead. That detail alone makes this a historically significant piece: it captures the original imagery, unchanged, from before the update. The cork is in wonderful condition. No chips or scratches.
There is simply nothing else like this. A profoundly rare piece for a Moose Lodge member, a fraternal organization collector, a historian, or any dad who appreciates the kind of collectible that tells a genuinely moving story.
The Loyal Order of Moose was founded in 1888 by Dr. John Henry Wilson in Louisville, Kentucky. The initials P.A.P. stand for "Purity, Aid, and Progress." Mooseheart — the organization's residential home and school for children whose parents are unable to care for them — was founded in 1913 by James J. Davis on a 1,000-acre campus in Mooseheart, Illinois. The Nine O'Clock Ceremony, depicted on this decanter, was a nightly ritual in which the children of Mooseheart said their bedtime prayers together — a tradition painted in oils in the 1930s and reproduced on fraternal memorabilia for decades. The Moose Fraternity today has over 1.5 million members worldwide.
