Pierre Smirnoff started making vodka in Russia in 1818; after the Bolshevik Revolution sent the family fleeing to Poland, the name found new life in America — this 1972 octagonal decanter carries that long history in eight clean glass panels.

The bottom is embossed "Liquor Bottle, 65 8 72" along with the Owens-Illinois logo. The stopper retains its original cork. Originally sold with Ste. Pierre Smirnoff's Tava liqueur — their tagline at the time read: "At Ste. Pierre Smirnoff Fls., we've been making vodka for 150 years. Tava is the only liqueur that bears our name."

Smirnoff's story begins in 1818 when Pierre Smirnoff started producing vodka in Russia under his surname; after the Bolshevik Revolution, the family fled to Poland and eventually sold the American rights to Rudolph Kunett, who established Ste. Pierre Smirnoff in New York in 1934.
