Rust red and gold panels alternating across bright white porcelain, with raised moriage dots in the smaller panels — the Cumberland pattern has the warmth of a Mediterranean evening and the formality of fine Japan china.
Sango's Cumberland (pattern #3732) dates to the late 1960s through 1976 — we know this because Sango moved manufacturing to Indonesia in 1977, and the Japan-made backstamp places it firmly before that date. The pattern is genuinely distinctive: large decorative panels in terracotta rust and gold frame smaller panels with hand-applied moriage raised dots, a technique that adds tactile dimension to the design. At 8 oz it's a generous pour. Backstamped "Sango China, Japan, Cumberland 3732." Other Cumberland serving pieces are also available in the shop.
A beautiful creamer for a warm-toned autumn table, a Mediterranean-inspired setting, or a maximalist collection that appreciates bold pattern with fine execution. A welcome find for collectors of the Cumberland pattern, and a distinctive gift for anyone whose table leans toward the richly decorative.
