Geisha women in a pagoda garden, rendered in hand-painted detail against a cobalt blue rim with a light gold enamel swirl — the kind of antique Japanese porcelain that launched a century of collecting.
Geisha Girl porcelain was produced by numerous Japanese factories from the late 19th century through the 1950s, primarily for export to Western markets. This example — marked simply "Japan" and estimated to the 1910s through mid-1930s peak period — shows the hallmarks of authentic early production rather than later reproduction: the hand-painted figures with raised stencil lines, colors that move just slightly outside their borders in the way hand-painted work does, and gold enamel swirling along the cobalt rim, a technique associated with early 20th century Japanese export ware. We've reviewed this piece carefully and believe it to be authentic, though we always encourage collectors to do their own research.
A welcome addition to a Geisha Girl collection — and these are wonderful mixed across different patterns, as collectors have done for decades. A meaningful gift for anyone who loves early Japanese export porcelain or the art of hand-painted antique ceramics.
