A large amber glass bottle from the transitional era of American pharmaceutical manufacturing — marked "S&D 38" on the bottom for Sharp & Dohme of Baltimore, Maryland. Made approximately between 1905 and 1915, this bottle sits at the fascinating intersection of two eras: the mold seams tell you machine-made glass production had arrived, but the cork closure tells you the industry hadn't fully let go of its handcraft roots yet. Glass bubbles are visible — entirely normal, and exactly what you want to see in a bottle of this age.

Sharp & Dohme was founded in Baltimore in 1860 and became one of America's most respected pharmaceutical manufacturers, eventually merging with Merck in 1953.
