A 1-pound key wind coffee can in bold red, white and blue, with old-fashioned lettering that makes it a natural for a vintage kitchen display.

  • Maker: Grosse Pointe Quality Food Co.
  • Materials: Metal tin
  • Dimensions: 5" diameter x 3.5" tall
  • Origin: USA (sold in Detroit, Michigan)
  • Era: Vintage 1950s
  • Condition: Very good; amazingly, there are no dents at all. The lid opens easily. There is some rust inside, and can corrosion on the top and bottom (not the same as rust) plus a bit of rust starting on the bottom. Please review photos closely before purchasing, as all sales are final.

A very rare find. It is a 1-pound key wind style can; this way of opening cans began around 1917 and is still used for some foods today. The bright red, white and blue colors and the old-fashioned letters make it a wonderful can to display, and a great collector's item.

A fun find for tin collectors, coffee lovers and anyone who decorates with vintage kitchenware.

Grosse Pointe Quality Food Co. was founded by the Shaye family in Detroit, Michigan, and operated from the 1920s into the 1980s. Named for the lakeside Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe, the brand sold groceries to Detroit-area shoppers, and its tins are a reminder of the days when coffee was bought in a bright metal can and opened with a key.
