This Lightning Ice Breaker No. 102, from North Bros Manufacturing Co. of Philadelphia, is a cocktail mixer and ice crusher in one — introduced in 1935 and built for the ceremony of a proper cocktail.

  • Maker: North Bros Mfg Co, Philadelphia, USA
  • Model: Lightning Ice Breaker No. 102
  • Materials: Glass body, chrome-finished steel lid, steel plunger rod
  • Dimensions: 9.25" tall overall; glass only 6.0" tall; 20 oz capacity
  • Origin: USA
  • Era: Vintage, 1935–1950s
  • Condition: Vintage, used — very good. Notable scratches on the glass from prior use, consistent with age. No chips, dents, or other damage. Please review photos closely before purchasing, as all sales are final.

Color-banded markings at 4, 8, and 12 oz make it genuinely functional, while the nine-point chipper blade on the plunger crushes ice with real mechanical charm. An exceptional gift for the cocktail enthusiast, the barware collector, or anyone who believes the bar deserves at least one truly unusual object.

North Bros Mfg Co was founded in 1878 in Philadelphia by Selden G. North, joined later by his brothers Ralph and Frank, and incorporated in 1887. Best known today for their "Yankee" line of ratcheting screwdrivers and hand tools, the company also had a long history manufacturing metal kitchen appliances — including ice cream freezers and ice-crushing tools like this one — before being acquired by the Stanley Works in 1946.
