Christmas Postcard, Vintage 1930s Unused, Hans Huber, Alpine Mountain Snow Scene, Germany

A snow-laden fir forest opens onto a jagged alpine summit, the scene wrapped in a script greeting: "Aus den Bergen, herzliche Weihnachts- und Neujahrsgrüsse" — "From the mountains, warm Christmas and New Year's greetings."

• Condition: Unposted; light overall toning; light card stock. Gentle creases at the very tip of corners, acceptable due to age/use/wear. Signature in the front.

This unused postcard was published by the Alpiner Kunstverlag Hans Huber of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, one of Germany's pioneering mountain-photography houses. Hans Huber, a passionate landscape and high-alpine photographer, founded the publisher in Munich in 1920 before relocating to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where he built a name photographing climbers on the Zugspitze and the peaks of the Bavarian Alps and Dolomites. The firm remains family-run today as Fotoverlag Huber. This particular image is signed, however the first name is hard to read, (potentially Ernst Huber or Josef Huber), and the card is numbered "Huber-Postkarte Nr. 5" on the reverse — a low number consistent with an early issue from the publisher's first years.
