Samuel Lowe Company of Kenosha, Wisconsin employed talented mid-century illustrators for their affordable children's books, distributed through dime stores rather than bookshops — everyday items never built to last, which makes surviving copies like this one genuinely rare today.
A wonderful gift for the vintage book collector or Christmas nostalgia lover. Pair with our other Samuel Lowe Christmas titles — Jolly Old Santa, Santa Claus in Toy Town, and Santa Comes to Our House — to build a charming set.
Samuel Lowe founded his Kenosha, Wisconsin publishing company after leaving Whitman Publishing, going on to produce inexpensive, high-volume children's books throughout the 1940s and 50s under imprints including James & Jonathan Co.; the company's low-cost, mass-market approach meant most copies were read to pieces and discarded rather than preserved.
