This is Saalfield's No. 4714 in their line of washable fabric books for infants, featuring eight illustrations by "Dotti" — a mid-century illustrator whose charming, rounded style appeared across several Saalfield cloth book titles.

Saalfield introduced its "muslin books" — children's books printed on washable cloth rather than paper — around 1902, built to survive being chewed, dragged, and loved by very young children. By 1925 the company had issued close to a hundred cloth titles, and Saalfield went on to become one of the largest publishers of children's materials in the country before closing in 1977.
