A treasury from 1899 — stories, nursery rhymes, and poems gathered for Victorian children, still here over a century later.
Happy Hours with Merry Little People is the fourth volume in Lothrop Publishing Company's beloved Happy Hours series, first introduced in 1895 with Sunny Days. This Boston publisher was among the most distinguished American children's imprints of the Gilded Age. The oversized volume is filled with black-and-white engraved illustrations and opens with a gorgeous color frontispiece. The illuminated front board — gilded and illustrated in color — is a masterpiece of Victorian bookmaking in its own right.
An extraordinary piece of 19th-century American publishing history. For the serious antiquarian collector, the Victorian ephemera enthusiast, or anyone who appreciates beautiful old things that have genuinely survived time.
