  • Made in USA
  • Vintage:  1930's - 1940's
  • This is a set of five Tiffin Pink Diamond Optic tall sherbet glasses, also known as champagne coupes, made in the United States in the 1930s to 1940s. Elegant Glass quality, not mass-produced. Some glassware sits in a cabinet and gets admired. This set gets used at parties and talked about all evening. They are hand blown, delicately beautiful, and classified as Elegant Glass, which is the collector's distinction for the finer, artisan-quality glassware of the Depression era as opposed to the cheaper mass-produced pieces made during this period. The pattern is Tiffin #15028, featuring a subtle diamond optic design pressed into the bowl of each glass that catches light beautifully. You may see this pattern listed elsewhere as Tiffin-Franciscan, but that name was not used until 1969 after a company merger. These glasses predate that era when Tiffin was still operating as a division of the U.S. Glass Company, so Tiffin is the correct attribution for this period. That is the kind of detail that matters to serious collectors and we take it seriously too.  Tiffin Pink Diamond Optic in a set of five, does not come around often. Elegant Glass from this era is increasingly hard to find and this particular pink colorway is one of the most sought after. If this is the pattern you have been looking for, now is the time.
  • How You Can Use Them - These are genuinely versatile pieces that work beautifully in two very different settings: Serve champagne, prosecco, or sparkling cocktails at a bar or celebration. Gift them to a champagne lover, a vintage collector, or anyone who appreciates handmade American glassware with real history.

Tiffin started as division of the U.S. Glass Co. in the late 1800's.  US Glass built two new factories, one was located in Tiffin, Ohio, and made blown glassware, stemware, and some dinnerware.  For various reasons, including the depression, fires, etc., all the factories closed except the one in Tiffin, Ohio and by 1950, all pieces were marked (using paper labels) with the Tiffin name, however, the company retained the name "United States Glass Co".  The Tiffin name was so popular that in 1963, the company reorganized as "Tiffin Art Glass Company".  Three years later, in 1966, Continental Can Company purchased Tiffin for a brief period, only to be sold again, this time to Interpace Corporation in January 1969.  Since Interpace owned Franciscan brand, this is the period where we find the "Tiffin-Franciscan" name for pieces made by Tiffin for Franciscan.  In 1979, Tiffin Glass was sold to Towle Silversmiths and renamed Tiffin Crystal. Tiffin Crystal shut down on May 1, 1980.
