Mikasa was founded in 1948 by George Aratani as American Commercial Inc., an importer of Japanese dinnerware. The Mikasa name was introduced to American shoppers in 1957, and in the 1970s the company added crystal stemware to its line. Olympus, introduced in 1987 and made in Slovenia, is now a discontinued pattern. Collectors and anyone replacing broken stemware look for it.
