This Nippon cake serving set carries the ‘M in a wreath’ mark — the backstamp Morimura used for exactly one decade before the company became Noritake.

  • Maker: Morimura Brothers
  • Mark: M in laurel wreath
  • Pattern: Yellow Lotus Flowers with gold moriage
  • Material: Fine porcelain, hand-painted
  • Pieces: 7 (1 cake plate with handles, 6 dessert plates)
  • Origin: Japan
  • Dimensions: Dessert plates 6¼" diameter; cake plate 9½" including handles
  • Era: Antique, 1911–1921
  • Condition: Excellent antique condition. No cracks, chips, or scratches. Gold beading in excellent condition. Not new; please review all photos carefully, as all sales are final.

One handled cake plate and six matching dessert plates, each individually hand-painted with yellow lotus flowers and green leaves, edged in gold. Every rim carries an exquisite beaded gold border, and the center of each piece has a gold moriage flower. The porcelain is translucent — fine enough to hold up to the light.

A stunning gift for a serious collector of Nippon or Noritake antiques, or an heirloom-quality acquisition for anyone who entertains with intention.

The “M in a wreath” backstamp places this set precisely: used by the Morimura Company of Japan between 1911 and 1921, the mark that preceded Noritake. In those ten years, Morimura produced some of the finest hand-painted porcelain exported to the American market, and this seven-piece cake serving set is an exceptional example.
