Bohemia Ceramic Works was founded in 1921 in what is now the Czech Republic, and for the next two decades produced some of the most elaborately gilded porcelain in Central Europe. This thirteen-piece set was made exclusively for Macy's — the Macy's backstamp confirms the retail partnership, the Bohemia mark places it between 1922 and 1945.
The set is Pattern 504: one large round cake plate and twelve square dessert plates, each carrying a romantic center medallion of white, pink, yellow, and blue florals surrounded by dense gilded filigree scrollwork and a thick gold rim. The square plates against the round serving plate is an unusual and elegant pairing. All thirteen pieces are in absolutely pristine condition — no cracks, no chips, no wear to report on any piece. This is the kind of set that was kept behind glass and brought out for very special occasions. It deserves to be used.
An exceptional bridal shower or wedding gift, a serious collector's acquisition, or a heirloom-quality find for anyone who entertains beautifully.
