Old Leeds Spray is one of Royal Doulton's most enduring patterns, produced from 1912 to 1956 in several different shapes and iterations. This version — D6203, datable to circa 1948 by its backstamp and series number — carries the original swirled form: colorful bouquets of red roses, purple tulips, yellow, orange, and purple blooms, tied with a bow, set against the swirled earthenware body with hand-painted green detailing on the built-in handles. Later versions dropped the swirls, then added a green rim, then removed it — so if you're building a collection, shape and series number matter.
At 10 inches handle to handle, this is a proper serving plate — beautiful on a buffet, a dessert table, or a wall.
A lovely gift for a Royal Doulton collector or anyone drawn to the exuberant English florals of the mid-century.
