The geometry of a diner counter, distilled into three inches of vitrified china.

This unmarked butter pat carries a clean geometric border in soft gray on a bright white ground — the kind of restrained, functional design that defined American commercial tableware in the 1940s and '50s. The body is thick and solid, as restaurant ware always was, built to survive the demands of hotels, diners, and railroads. The concentric circles on the back are characteristic of American-made restaurant ware from this period. There is a very light hairline crack on the back, not deep, not visible from the front — priced accordingly.

A compact collectible for the restaurant ware enthusiast, a tiny soap dish, ring holder, or tea bag rest — or simply a quiet piece of mid-century American design history.
