The lady in an orange and blue skirt with gold blouse, the gentleman in an orange coat and gold pants — another chapter of the Fragonard courtship, this time rendered on semi-porcelain by The Cronin China Company of Minerva, Ohio (1934–1956). The indented border and brushed gold rim frame the decal with quiet elegance.
The backstamp carries the National Brotherhood of Operative Potters seal, used only until 1950 — which helps date this plate to the first half of that decade. The decal is pristine, there is no crazing, no chips. One area of the gold rim has worn through (photographed). A beautiful plate for wall display, for mixing with other grandmillennial or romantic revival pieces, or for the collector who loves mid-century American pottery with a story.
