The snowflakes are gray and black, with little stars added in bright, shiny gold. Every bowl has a gray stripe on the border and a silver rim. We love the retro shape of the serving bowl, and the small fruit bowls are adorable. It is a heavy set.
Wonderful for winter tables, for mixing and matching with other snowflake patterns, and for anyone drawn to mid-century modern style.
The atomic starburst became one of the most recognizable symbols of mid-century design, appearing on everything from signs to household goods, and Franciscan's Starburst dinnerware brought the look to American tables in 1954. Stars and snowflakes in black and gold became a favorite of the era's glassware and china, and this set belongs to that tradition, with its gray and black snowflakes lit up by shiny gold stars. We haven't been able to attribute the pattern to a maker, though many vintage patterns feature snowflakes, and we think this is one of the prettiest.
