Anchor Hocking began as the Hocking Glass Company in 1905, when Isaac J. Collins and six friends raised $8,000 to buy the Lancaster Carbon Company in Lancaster, Ohio, and named the business for the nearby Hocking River. It merged with the Anchor Cap and Closure Corporation in 1937 to form Anchor Hocking, and dropped "Glass" from its corporate name in 1969. Fairfield arrived in 1972, when the company embraced the decade's green trend, and this avocado shade shows why the pattern is so closely tied to 1970s kitchens and tables. Anchor Hocking made the pattern until 1976.
