Several Neoclassical figures from Greek mythology circle the outside in white relief against the soft blue ground, the pale blue that collectors prize most among Jasperware colors. Hand wash only, and never place it in the dishwasher.

A lovely collector's piece for a mantel, shelf or curio cabinet.

Josiah Wedgwood founded his pottery in Staffordshire in 1759, and in the 1770s he introduced jasper, a fine unglazed stoneware that could be colored throughout and decorated with white relief figures applied by hand. Jasperware was made in several colors, including cobalt blue, lavender and green, and Wedgwood blue became its signature. The Bute bowl, also called a mazer bowl, takes its form from the mazer, a medieval communal drinking and feasting bowl, and here it is given the classical decoration Wedgwood is known for.
