Given the cracks, it's best used as a decorative piece — wonderful grouped with similar steins on a bar shelf, in a cabinet, or as part of a fall or Oktoberfest vignette.
The figures are embossed and hand-painted in muted, earthy tones — browns, beiges, soft blues and greens, the palette of an old European countryside. These Japanese-made German-style steins were produced in great numbers during the 1950s and 60s and are now a collectible category of their own, sought after by barware collectors and lovers of mid-century kitsch alike.
