There's something wonderfully grounded about this mug — the weight of it, the earthy brown and beige glaze, the hand-impressed marks of a studio potter who signed their work with quiet pride.
The scene wrapping around the body is a classic Colonial German pub — figures gathered, unhurried, as they have been for centuries. The glaze is rich and textured, the kind that only comes from a skilled hand and a well-fired kiln.
Impressed into the base: JWC, Germany, 2098 26 I39 32 11 — the mark of a studio pottery workshop, likely mid-20th century. Unidentified, but clearly intentional.
A note on condition: there is a small chip on the rim, making this best suited for display — as a bar accessory holder, a seasonal vignette, or simply a handsome object on a shelf. It holds bar spoons, cocktail picks, or pencils beautifully.
