It opened in 1976. It closed nine months later. This glass is one of the few things that survived it.
This is a vintage souvenir glass piece from the Rendezvous Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada — smoky gray pressed glass with a pleated border, dated 1976. One available.
The Rendezvous Hotel and Casino had one of the shortest runs in Las Vegas history: it opened in 1976 and closed just nine months later, reopening in 1978 as The Big Nickel before that too disappeared. What that brief existence means for the collector is simple — very little promotional material survived, and pieces in any condition are genuinely difficult to find. This one is smoky gray with a decorative pleated border all the way around, a form that is distinctly of its moment. Two minor manufacturing flaws — a faint line through the center and stress lines on the reverse — are not damage but characteristics of the low-cost promotional glass typical of the era. One small chip on the top border, photographed and disclosed.
A wonderful piece of Las Vegas history for a Nevada gaming collector, a mid-century travel memorabilia enthusiast, or anyone drawn to the brief, vivid lives of the Strip's forgotten properties.
