Four deep, dark red roses rendered in oil-painting depth against an ombre green ground that shifts from forest shadow to soft yellow — it's the kind of background that takes as long to paint as the roses themselves. The border is textured with fine dotted embossing; the rim finishes in a graceful swirl. The green wreath hallmark on the back — "Royal" above, "Austria" below — places this firmly in the O&EG period after Edgar Gutherz bought out Maximilian Marx in 1898.
