In 1938, Eveready told its story through Clyde Beatty — the era's most famous lion tamer — recounting the night his flashlight batteries were the only thing standing between him and the wild cats. The ad reads like a short story, signed by Beatty himself, under the line "Eveready Batteries are Fresh Batteries." Printed in two colors, blue and red, the illustration is bold and theatrical. The reverse carries small ads for Shaler Karbout and Veg-e-lay Hair Dressing.
