Beer Label, Cook's 500 Ale, Original Circa 1950's NOS

• Details:  This is an original label for Cook's 500 Ale Beer.  It is gilded paper featuring an Indianapolis 500 race car speeding by the finish line under a checkered flag . Cook's beer was brewed by F W Cook Brewing Company in Evansville, Indiana.  This is new old stock found at the F. W. Cook Company.  Really nice condition, suitable for framing.  Great for man cave or bar decor.

The City Brewery was founded in 1853 by Frederick Washington Cook and Jacob Rice. It split from the "old brewery" and opened its own at 11 NW 7th St. By 1880, the Cook & Rice City Brewery had an ice house, malt house, stable, and office that covered entire block bounded by 7th (M L King), Sycamore, 8th, and Main Streets in Evansville, Indiana. After Rice's death in 1885, it was renamed F W Cook Brewing Co.  When F.W. died in 1913, his son Henry ran the company until his death in 1929. Then Henry's brother, Charles Cook, took over keeping the F W Cook name.   The building was destroyed by fire Dec 3, 1891 and a new brew house was completed in March 1893.  Another large fire in 1905 destroyed much of plant.  The plant was closed during Prohibition but after Prohibition ended in 1933, the company continued its brewing business.  In early 1950 the brewery completed an extensive remodel of the 7th St offices, however, by 1957 they were out of business.
