This pattern was also listed in a 1955 catalog under the name Hop Scotch, produced sometime in the 1960s before the company transitioned to distribution in 1968. A set of four saucers in excellent condition is not always easy to come by. We also carry a second set of four at a lower price point with minor pattern irregularities.

Salem China was founded in 1898 in Salem, Ohio, originally making durable hotel ware before expanding into creative, colorful household dinnerware.  In 1918, the company was bought by the Sebring family, kicking off its most successful era. During the 1930s, renowned designer Don Schreckengost introduced iconic, geometric Art Deco shapes like Tricorne and Streamline. Due to foreign competition, Salem China stopped manufacturing in 1967.  Today, its 500+ patterns and unique backstamp dating system make it a favorite for vintage collectors.  Atomic-age patterns like North Star exemplify the optimism of mid-century design, and pieces in excellent, uncracked condition are genuinely sought after by MCM collectors today.
