  • Pattern: English Crown and Shields
  • Unknown Brand, possibly Culver
  • Vintage circa 1960's - 1970's
  • Details:  This is a really nice large glass bowl, totally retro, symbolic of the style of those days.  From the frosted design with gold crowns and shields to the shape of the bowl, everything about it says "mid century/retro" design.  The pattern repeats all around the glass and would make a stunning addition to any bar or just as beautiful on a bar cart, game table, buffet or salad bar.  Although we could not confirm the maker of this pattern, we attribute it to Culver not only because of the pattern "look and feel", but also the shape of the bowl is exactly like many chip and dip bowls, as well as ice buckets in known Culver patterns.  Also around the 1970's Culver started using paper labels attached to the glass which would be either removed for use or destroyed over time.  We've also seen it attributed to Anchor Hocking but could find no history on this pattern for Anchor Hocking.  Either way, it's a really great retro piece that will have people talking!
  • Materials:  Glass and 22K Gold
  • Dimensions:  approx. 6 inches Tall and 10.75 inches Wide at its widest (top opening).  It narrows down towards the base which is 4.75 inches Wide
  • Condition:  Vintage - Used.  Very Good Condition.  There is slight wear on some of the gold areas consistent with age/use/wear.  We have shown the wear from both the front and back that's why there are many pictures, but it's the same area, front and back. There are no chips, cracks or other imperfections visible.  Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  Please remember these are ANTIQUE and VINTAGE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.
Culver Ltd was founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1939 by Irving Rothenberg. Culver Glass has some beautiful patterns and all feature real 22-karat gold decoration especially from the late 1950’s on through the 1960’s.   In 1980, the company moved to downtown Rahway, New Jersey. Irving Rothenberg passed away in 1987 and his son, Mark ‘Mickey’ Rothenberg, continued the Culver Glass Company. Mickey ran the company until he sold Culver Ltd. in 1996 to Moderne Glass Company, Inc.  Looks like Moderne has brought back the Culver name they have a website and are selling old Culver patterns with slight design changes as well as brand new Culver patterns.  Culver glass is highly collectible and commands a high price especially for pristine condition and hard to find patterns. A sad part of the Culver history is that Mickey Rothenberg died on 9/11.  He was one of the passengers on the terrorist's hijacked airplane flying from New Jersey to California that crashed in the Pennsylvania field.
