McKee Glass Company, founded in Pittsburgh in 1853, was one of America's great pressed glass houses. This bowl's pattern — variously known as Band, Colonial with Diamond Band, and Plymouth Thumbprint — has one of the longest production histories in American glass, with the design first documented in McKee's 1859 catalog. The three-part composition is quietly sophisticated: the lower diamond field catches light differently than the upper thumbprints, and the lace edge ties both together. At 11 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches tall, it's a generous piece — a proper fruit bowl, salad bowl, or centerpiece vessel. Surface scratches on the bottom and sides are consistent with the piece's age and normal use.
