Japanese patterns: Looking from the outer border towards the center, we find the Shippo Pattern which is the green woven pattern with green dots in the center, it symbolizes a Happy Ending. The other half of this border has several dots/circles with patterns within the balls, such as: Seigaihan which symbolizes Continued Peaceful Living. There is more Uroko pattern within the geometric circles, Uroko has the power of driving out evil. Kikkou is made up of tortoise shell shapes and its a symbol of longevity and a prayer for long life. The small flowers within the circles are Kiku, (Chrysanthemums), symbolize longevity and rejuvenation and Ume, symbolizing luck, nobility, purity, devotion. Lastly, the large flowers in the center we believe are cherry blossoms or Sakura and they are a symbol for Beginning. Hope you found this interesting and gives you a deeper appreciation for such a beautiful and joyful bowl.
