Details: This is an adorable condiment set, it is made up of two very red tomatoes with their bright green leaves. The lids form the tomato tops and have a little opening for the serving spoons (not included). These tomatoware pieces were imported from Japan by several different companies and became very popular during the war era and well into the 1950's, they are highly collectible and still desirable today. This piece still retains its original label which reads: "UCAGCO Ceramics Japan". Condiments include things like mustard and pickle relish but we think this piece makes a wonderful Jam and Jellies server too. If you're a collector of tomatoware ceramics, we hope this piece adds to your collection. Condition: Vintage - Used. Good Condition. There is one tiny chip on one of the tomato tops we have zoomed in on it for you, there is another chip on the underside of a lid, but not very noticeable. The paint is a bit worn on the bottom but this is consistent/acceptable due to age/use/wear. There are no spoons in this set. UCAGCO was founded in 1850 by Abe Mayer with offices in New Orleans and New York. Originally called, Abe Mayer & Co they officially took the trademark UCAGCO (which stands for United China and Glass Company) in the 1930’s. Ucagco was primarily a creator and distributor of dinnerware and glassware. After WWII was over, the company’s agent in Japan (S.A. Stolaroff) signed the very first contract allowing imports from Japan. In 1956, UCAGCO was sold to Sammons Enterprises.
