This oval glass dish was released by Avon to commemorate the United States Bicentennial. At its center is the Great Seal of the United States — the American eagle clutching an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other, the eternal symbol of a nation that holds both peace and the power of war. Above the eagle, 13 stars represent the original colonies. The scalloped border carries script lettering reading "United States of America" across the top and "1776 Bicentennial 1976" along the bottom. Embossed "wooden stick" handles frame each side.

It is, in short, a beautifully considered piece of American commemorative glassware — equally at home in a study, a library, a patriotic holiday display, or on a serving table where it will absolutely start a conversation.
