- Vintage Vase, Oriental Royal Satsuma Vase, Gold Elephant Handles, Geishas, Landscape & Florals Decorations, Hand Painted Moriage, Figural Vase, Asian Decor, Decorative Vase, Japanese Chinoiserie, Japan Imports, Home Decor, Gift Ideas, (Discontinued)
- Made in: Japan
- Vintage: 1960's - 1970's
- Details: This is a wonderful oriental style vase from Royal Satsuma with Geishas playing musical instruments, (same design on both sides), it is known as an Export Vase. The sides have oriental florals and hand painted moriage abounds, plus lots of gilding. Two scroll-work gold handles, shaped like elephants, add to the elegance of the piece. There is intentional, classic Satsuma crazing (crackled effect), all over the piece. It has a matt finish, also classic of Satsuma wares. Of course it's not legitimate Satsuma, original Satsuma pottery was made by Korean prisoners captured by Japan rulers in the late 1500's, this piece is not even late period Japanese Satsuma from the late 1800's, this is simply an export piece made in Japan for mass consumption in the West, but it is absolutely beautiful and Royal Satsuma pieces have become highly sought after by Western collectors. It is in pristine condition, wonderful gift for a chinoiserie lover!
