Hand-blown in opaque cobalt blue glass with a matte surface, this compact vase has a quiet, almost velvety presence entirely different from polished glass. From the estate of a Murano glass collector. No identifying sticker remains, but the quality and weight are consistent with legitimate Murano work. One available.
With a single stem or on its own, on a windowsill, a vanity, or a shelf — a lovely gift for a Murano collector or a lover of deeply colored glass.
Matte, or "satin," finishes on Murano glass are typically achieved through acid etching or sandblasting after the piece is fully formed and cooled — a deliberate finishing step that trades the material's natural brilliance for a softer, tactile surface, a technique Murano glasshouses have used since at least the early 20th century to offer a quieter alternative to their more famous polished work.
