Champlevé is one of the oldest enamelwork techniques in the world, dating back to the ancient Celts and later perfected by medieval European craftsmen. The Indian tradition of brass enamelwork, particularly from Rajasthan, produced some of the finest champlevé pieces of the 20th century, exported widely during the global boho design movement of the 1970s and 1980s.
