The American Thermos Bottle Company was founded in 1907 by William B. Walker, who had learned of the German vacuum bottle on a trip abroad and secured the U.S. rights to the Thermos name. In 1913 the company moved from Brooklyn to Norwich, Connecticut, where the city had courted it with a plant on the Thames River, and Norwich-made bottles carried a "Made in Norwich" stamp. In 1960 the company merged with the King-Seeley Corporation to become the King-Seeley Thermos Company, the name on this bottle, which brought Thermos into tents, camp stoves, and lanterns alongside its vacuum bottles. Just a couple of years before this one was made, a 1962 court ruling declared "thermos" a generic word for vacuum bottles, which is why so many brands use it today.
