Every surface tells a story on these cups.
This pair of Japanese ceramic teacups is covered in hand-painted narrative detail: robed samurai in traditional dress and formal hairstyle, a Geisha figure, and Japanese characters woven between the scenes — all accented in gold. The crazing throughout appears to be an intentional design choice, giving the pieces a warm, aged patina that suits their subject beautifully. Marked on the base with a red square seal; maker unidentified. These were originally part of a larger tea set — a lucky find for someone completing a set, or a collector drawn to the artistry alone. One cup has a minor surface scrape, photographed.
A thoughtful gift for the collector of Japanese art, the history enthusiast, or anyone who takes their tea seriously.
