Five footed cups, each hand painted with a rich floral border against a deep dark ground, gold handles catching the light — this is the kind of set that belongs in a cabinet and occasionally, deliberately, on a table. The painting is precise and confident, the work of someone who knew what they were doing.

EPIAG porcelain was produced in Czechoslovakia from around 1910 until 1946, when shifting borders and postwar changes brought an end to that chapter of Central European ceramics. The blank porcelain was almost certainly painted in the United States — in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, china painting clubs were a serious pursuit among educated American women, and European blanks like these were their medium of choice. Cups only, no saucers. We also carry two matching footed cups (CT Altwasser, set of 2) and one single footed cup with the same floral border — all go beautifully together, handles only differ. An exceptional display set, a collector's find, or a striking gift for someone who appreciates the Victorian domestic arts. Lovely for a birthday, anniversary, or housewarming.
