Two footed cups from the Carl Tielsch Altwasser factory in Silesia — the same dark floral border, the same hand-painted confidence, the same gold handles as the companion pieces in this collection. Each cup is its own object, made to be held and admired, from an era when china painting was both a social ritual and a genuine art form.
Carl Tielsch Altwasser was a distinguished Silesian porcelain manufacturer whose blanks found their way into American homes via china painting clubs — communities of educated women who imported European blanks and painted them with botanical precision. The resulting pieces crossed two continents and a century to get here. Cups only, no saucers. One cup is in excellent condition; the other has a small chip on the underside of the handle — noted in photos, price reflects both. We also carry a set of 5 EPIAG cups and one single EPIAG cup with the same floral border. Contact us for a discount on all 8.
A beautiful pair for a collector, a display, or a gift for someone who loves things with a layered story. Lovely for a birthday, anniversary, or housewarming.
