A piece of American kitchen history — printed in the year America turned 200. This 1976 calendar tea towel by Kay Dee features the iconic "Spirit of '76" image, based on Archibald MacNeal Willard's beloved 1875 painting of three Revolutionary soldiers — fife, drum, and flag in hand — marching forward. The full 1976 calendar is printed below, making it as functional as it is festive.
Printed at the bottom with "Dakin Farm" of Ferrisburg, Vermont — most likely issued as a promotional gift for their customers during the bicentennial year. A rod pocket along the top makes it easy to display with a dowel. Colors are still bright and vivid, with only two very small storage stains on the margins (see condition notes).
A wonderful piece of Americana for a farmhouse kitchen, patriotic vignette, or America 250th anniversary display.
Kay Dee has been hand-printing linen kitchen towels and calendar towels since 1951, operating out of Hope Valley, Rhode Island. Still in business today, their vintage pieces are increasingly sought after by collectors of American kitchen textiles.
Dakin Farm was founded by Sam Cutting III in Ferrisburg, Vermont in 1960, originally selling maple syrup under the name "Dakin Farm Maple Market." Still thriving today with a much expanded product line.
