Red, pink, yellow, and blue flowers layered inside scalloped bands of yellow and a red border with white accents — this sugar bowl is the opposite of understated, and better for it.

Backstamped "Pd Versailles China, Japan," this 1950s–1960s porcelain sugar bowl is from a maker we haven't been able to trace further — but the piece needs no pedigree to make its case. The pattern is intricate and richly colored: multi-bloom florals in the center, scalloped yellow banding, and a red border carrying its own secondary floral motif. Gold traces the handles, the lid finial, and the rim. The wide twin-handled silhouette gives it a generous, open presence on a table. Hand washing is necessary to maintain the design. Note: there is one small chip on the rim — shown clearly in the photos.

A striking addition to a colorful table or a collected shelf of floral Japan porcelain. Priced to reflect its condition — a good opportunity for someone who loves the pattern and doesn't mind a small imperfection in an otherwise beautiful piece.
