These vintage Christmas songbooks were promotional items given by banks, stores and many other businesses. Typical of the mid-20th century, circa 1950s and 1960s. Home Federal Savings and Loan Assoc of Des Moines opened in 1929. They are remembered for their contribution to beautiful architecture in public spaces. Their mid century modern building, constructed in 1962, considered to be "one of the most well-known examples of mid-century modern architecture in Des Moines. Designed by the prominent Chicago architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, it is one of the first steel and glass modernist buildings in the city's downtown. We believe they went out of business during the "Savings and Loan Crisis", 1980's to 1990, when over 1,000 savings and loans failed and the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC) went bankrupt. This period saw the largest bank collapse since the Great Depression.
