The Butterfly Wing Effect: reverse painted glass with pearlescent foil applied to the back, this time in the form of a star-filled night sky. Developed by Reliance Picture Frame Company of Manhattan in the 1920s–1930s. The subject: a couple in a horse-drawn buggy, the silhouette dark against the glittering background. The mark on the back is present but too faint to read with certainty — technique and period are consistent with Reliance production. Wood frame, cardboard backing. The frame is slightly wobbly and has wear; cardboard has staining. The art itself is the draw here — the star foil effect on this one is particularly striking.
