  • Pattern:  Vintage Serving Platter, Homer Laughlin Pottery, Virginia Rose Shaped with VR-128 (Fluffy Rose) decal, Ceramic, (Discontinued)
  • Made in Newell, WV, USA
  • Vintage: 1946
  • Details:   This is a very old, very beautiful, oval serving platter made by Homer Laughlin.  This is pattern VR-128, which later became known as Fluffy Rose.  It has pink, white and small purple flowers with yellow/orange centers and bright green leaves.  This is part of a dinnerware set in the Virginia Rose ceramic shape which Homer Laughlin decorated with many different decals, (see below for further details).  There is a platinum trim around the platter and platinum design on the handles.  The backstamp reads:  "Homer Laughlin, Virginia Rose, Made in U.S.A, M 46, N B".  This helped us date this specific piece to 1946.  This platter is NOT dishwasher safe, Hand Wash is necessary in order to maintain condition.  There are some condition issues, please see "Condition" below, priced accordingly.
  • Material:  Ceramic
  • Dimensions:  11.5 inches Long, 8.75 inches Wide (at its widest point)
  • Condition:  Vintage - Used.  Average Vintage Condition considering age.  The decals are in good condition but there is some paint loss on one of the flowers.  There are 3 chips on the underside of the rim.  It is well-loved, lots of signs of use/wear/age and spots with brown discoloration. Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  Please remember these are VINTAGE and ANTIQUE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.

Homer Laughlin China Company was started by brothers. Homer and Shakespeare Laughlin in 1871 as Laughlin Pottery in East Liverpool, Ohio. Due to rapid growth, in 1903 they opened a second location in Newell, West Virginia, by 1920 all production had been moved to Newell and the Ohio plant was abandoned. Homer Laughlin is best known for producing the very popular "Fiesta" line of dinnerware. The company is still in production and still manufactures all its wears in the USA, actually, in that very same Newell, WV location, it's the home of the "HCL Inc." family of companies that includes Hall China. (The Hall China Company merged with Homer Laughlin China Company in 2010).

Virginia Rose is not the pattern name but rather the embossing/design on the dinnerware, (mostly seen on the edge of plates and platters).  The floral pattern is VR-128, we've also seen it called Fluffy Rose.  Virginia Rose was made from 1932 to 1968 using many different decal designs.
